An oral history of Def Jam Records

Or as I like to say OH NO CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY!  The boys at Dangerous Minds dropped this sweet little treat for all fans of music courtesy of BBC Radio 2.  If you grew up under a rock you’ve probably never heard of Def Jam but I know everyone out there reading this has at least hear of LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys and Slayer, yes Slayer among many others.

Def Jam was the brain child of Rick Rubin and Russel Simmons who both are HUGE legends in the music biz, withRubin producing classic albums like the Beasties Licensed to Ill, Slayers Reign in Blood, Public Enemy’s Takes a nation of Millions and literally 100′s of others from T La Rock to Johnny Cash’s American Recordings while Simmons has been more of an entrepreneur and activist (note* his younger brother is Rev Run of Run DMC…pedegree people!!).  Anyway I digress.  Click the Public Enemy album cover to listen to some music history from the guys who made it, exciting shit!
